- The Minister of State for Women and Child Development recently informed the Rajya Sabha about the progress of the Yashoda AI initiative, an AI literacy program exclusively for women.
About Yashoda AI:
- Launched: May 2025
- Objective: To empower women across India with AI literacy, fostering digital inclusion and awareness about cyber security, privacy, and online safety.
- Organized by: National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with Future Shift Labs (FSL).
- Scope: The program focuses on critical issues like AI-driven crimes, digital privacy, and practical online safety strategies.
Training Impact:
- So far, about 2500 women have been trained.
- Beneficiaries include women from rural and semi-urban areas
- Self-Help Group (SHG) members
- Elected representatives such as Sarpanchs, Pradhans, Mayors, MLAs
- ASHA workers and grassroots leaders
About the National Commission for Women (NCW):
- Established: 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990
- Composition: Chairperson, 5 Members, and a Member-Secretary — all nominated by the Central Government
- Term: Each member serves for 3 years
Powers: Equivalent to a civil court, including powers to
- Summon individuals and examine on oath
- Demand documents
- Receive affidavits as evidence
- Access public records
- Commission examinations of witnesses and documents
