Why in News?
Tripura has achieved a zero per cent dropout rate at the primary level during 2025–26, according to Chief Minister Manik Saha. The achievement has been attributed to sustained efforts to strengthen foundational literacy across primary schools.
Key Highlights
- Tripura has been implementing ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram since May 2022 to promote lifelong learning and literacy.
- Under ULLAS, the state introduced financial literacy initiatives for neo-learners, including training in the use of cheque books, deposit forms and banking services.
- Experiential Market Learning has also been introduced, using activities such as buying, selling and price comparison to improve literacy and numeracy skills.
- The state is conducting health and hygiene awareness programmes, including practical demonstrations on handwashing, sanitation and personal cleanliness.
- The Tripura government plans to establish state-of-the-art residential schools on the lines of Eklavya Model Schools to improve enrolment in government schools in remote and rural areas.
