About the Tiwa Tribe:
- Also known as Lalung, the Tiwas reside mainly in Assam and Meghalaya.
They are divided into two groups:
- Hill Tiwas: Inhabit Karbi Anglong (Assam) and parts of Meghalaya; speak a Tibeto-Burman language.
- Plains Tiwas: Live along the southern banks of the Brahmaputra Valley; speak Assamese.
- Society follows a matrilineal system called Kobea Liwa, where a boy goes to the girl’s house for marriage.
- Major festivals include Tiwa Bihu, Jon Beel Mela, Sagramisawa, Langkhun Puja, and Langkhun Festival.They are divided into two groups.
