- The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with UNICEF India, has launched the TALASH initiative, a nationwide programme dedicated to supporting the holistic development of tribal students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).
- TALASH, which stands for Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills and Self-Esteem Hub, is the first initiative of its kind that focuses exclusively on tribal students.
- It seeks to nurture not only their academic potential but also their emotional well-being and career aspirations. The programme will reach more than 1.38 lakh students across EMRSs in 28 States and 8 Union Territories.
- At the core of TALASH lies a modern digital platform that functions as a hub for career planning, life skills, and self-development. One of its key components is the introduction of psychometric assessments inspired by NCERT’s ‘Tamanna’. Through a common aptitude test, students receive personalised Career Cards that suggest career paths suited to their abilities and interests.
- This is complemented by structured career counselling that helps students align their aspirations with their strengths and make informed decisions about their futures.
- The programme also places significant emphasis on life skills and self-esteem building. Modules are designed to develop problem-solving abilities, emotional intelligence, and communication skills, ensuring that students are not only academically prepared but also confident and adaptable in real-world situations. In addition, TALASH provides e-learning resources for teachers and mentors, equipping them with the tools to better guide and support students’ overall growth.
- The vision of TALASH extends beyond academics.
- It is about instilling confidence, clarity, and capacity in tribal youth, while fostering inclusive education, career readiness, and emotional resilience.
- By combining technology, guidance, and mentorship, the initiative seeks to empower tribal students to realise their full potential and step into the future with greater self-assurance.
