The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy notified emission standards for Green Ammonia and Green Methanol.
The standards aim to support the National Green Hydrogen Mission and accelerate trade of green hydrogen derivatives.

Important Points:
● The National Green Hydrogen Mission was approved in 2023 to make India a global hub for clean hydrogen.
● The mission targets 125 GW renewable energy capacity for hydrogen production by 2030.
● It aims to attract investments of about ₹8 lakh crore and create about 6 lakh jobs.
● Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy through electrolysis of water.
● To qualify as green hydrogen, emissions must not exceed 2 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg of hydrogen produced.
● Green ammonia emissions must not exceed 0.38 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg of ammonia.
● Green methanol emissions must not exceed 0.44 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg of methanol.
● Green ammonia is produced by combining green hydrogen with nitrogen and can be used as a fertilizer feedstock.
● Green methanol can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60–95% compared with conventional methanol.
