Latest Update:
- The Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the special registration drive under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) until 15 August 2025, aiming to expand coverage among eligible women.
About PMMVY:
- Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme
- Umbrella Scheme: Sub-scheme ‘Samarthya’ under Mission Shakti
- Objective:
- To support pregnant women and lactating mothers from economically and socially disadvantaged sections.
- Improve maternal health, encourage institutional delivery, and promote safe motherhood.
Key Benefits:
- First Child:
- ₹5,000 cash incentive in two instalments via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
- Additional benefits through Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), totaling around ₹6,000
- Second Child (If Girl):
- ₹6,000 cash incentive under PMMVY
- Special Provision:
- In case of miscarriage or stillbirth, the beneficiary is treated as a fresh case in the next pregnancy.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicable to women belonging to any of the following:
- SC/ST categories
- Disabled women (40% or more)
- BPL Ration Card holders
- PMJAY-Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries
- E-Shram card holders
- Women farmers under PM-KISAN
- MGNREGA job card holders
- Women with family income below ₹8 lakh/annum
- AWWs, AWHs, ASHAs (Pregnant/Lactating)
- Other categories as prescribed by the Government
Note:
Women already receiving similar maternity benefits from government employment or other laws are not eligible.
Implementation:
- Managed by States/UTs through field functionaries
- PMMVY Soft software (launched in March 2023) ensures
- Aadhaar authentication via UIDAI
- NPCI verification for secure, Aadhaar-seeded DBT transfers
