Union Minister Nitin Gadkari conferred the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak on 12 rat miners for their courage and selfless service during the Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operation.

- Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak is the highest award in the Jeevan Raksha Padak series.
- It is awarded for exceptional courage in saving human lives under dangerous circumstances.
- It can be awarded to civilians as well as personnel of the Armed Forces, Police and recognised Fire Services.
- The award can also be given posthumously.
- It covers acts of saving lives during incidents such as drowning, fire and mine rescue operations.
