Why in News?
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal launched the revamped India Code Portal on 13 August 2026 in New Delhi. The updated portal is aimed at making laws easier to search and access for citizens, lawyers, researchers and government departments.
About India Code Portal
- India Code provides access to Central Acts, State Acts, subordinate legislation and Union Territory laws.
- The revamped portal has AI-assisted search, semantic search and speech-based search to help users find relevant laws more easily.
- It allows users to move between Acts, amendments and related subordinate legislation through improved links.
- Laws will be available in all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
- Other features include e-Gazette integration, improved document viewing, QR-enabled access and a citizen-feedback facility.
- The revamped portal is expected to improve access to legal information, transparency and legal awareness.
