• Project Vijayak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 15th Raising Day in September 2025 at Kargil, Ladakh, highlighting its contribution to connectivity, defence preparedness, and regional development.
• Established in 2010, the project has received investments of over ₹1,200 crore and is now recognised as a symbol of engineering excellence in one of the world’s toughest terrains.
• Launched to improve road and bridge infrastructure in Ladakh, Project Vijayak focuses on linking remote valleys and forward areas to the national mainstream.
• It provides crucial logistical support for the Armed Forces while simultaneously boosting socio-economic opportunities for local communities.
• Over the past 15 years, the project has built and maintained more than 1,400 km of roads and 80 major bridges.
• A major milestone came in April 2025 when the Zojila Pass was reopened within just 31 days after its winter closure — setting a record in high-altitude connectivity.
• Beyond infrastructure, the project places emphasis on welfare initiatives for Casual Paid Labourers, offering insulated shelters, sanitation facilities, protective gear, winter clothing, and healthcare. Cultural programmes, bike rallies, and events like Sainik Sammelan strengthen ties between troops, families, and locals.
• Looking ahead, Project Vijayak plans to widen key roads, construct new tunnels, and integrate eco-friendly practices such as geotextiles, slope stabilisation, and digital monitoring to ensure resilience and environmental sustainability.
