Over 1,000 Defence & Fire Personnel Honoured Ahead of Independence Day

In anticipation of India’s 79th Independence Day on August 15, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced a significant honour list.

A total of 1,090 personnel from police, fire services, Home Guard, Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services have been selected for Gallantry and Service Medals.

These awards recognize bravery, dedication, and exceptional service in ensuring national security and public safety.

The personnel hailed come from diverse roles—frontline policing, fire response, disaster management, community defense, and correctional institutions.

The announcement serves as both a tribute to the individuals and a morale booster for the nation on the eve of its independence.

The awards spotlight the often-unseen contributions of internal security forces and emergency responders.

This recognition also reflects institutional acknowledgment across multiple departments beyond the armed forces—emphasizing a holistic view of national defense.

Key details: 1,090 awardees, multiple service categories, connection to Independence Day celebrations.
