● Requires destruction of stockpiles within 4 years
● Mined areas to be cleared within 10 years
● Entered into force on 1 March 1999
● 164 States Parties and 33 Signatories
● Major non-parties: China, India, Pakistan, Russia, USA, South Korea
● States must report stockpiles and mined areas annually
● Mandates assistance to mine victims and affected communities
