One Herb, One Standard Initiative

Why in News?

The Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H) and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) have renewed their MoU for three years to strengthen the standardisation of medicinal plants.

About the MoU

  • The ‘One Herb, One Standard’ approach seeks to establish a common, clear and scientifically reliable standard for the same medicinal plant used across different traditional medicine systems.
  • It covers Ayurveda, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Unani and Homoeopathy.
  • The renewed framework builds on 50 medicinal plant monographs developed during the first phase.
  • The standards will consider Indian as well as international quality requirements.
  • The initiative aims to improve quality assurance, ease of doing business and global acceptance of Indian traditional medicines.
