• The New Development Bank (NDB), established by the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has appointed Dr Rajiv Ranjan as its Vice President and Chief Risk Officer. This appointment reflects India’s expanding influence in global financial governance and multilateral development institutions.
• Dr Rajiv Ranjan, who joined the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1989, brings over three decades of experience in central banking. He most recently served as an Executive Director at RBI and was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) since May 2022. His expertise spans monetary policy, liquidity management, risk assessment, and financial markets.
• In addition to his domestic contributions, Dr Ranjan has represented India in key international platforms such as the G20, IMF, World Bank, Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Financial Stability Board (FSB), OECD, and SAARC. His leadership is expected to strengthen the NDB’s role in development finance and global economic cooperation.
