Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana:
- In a landmark move, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) launched the ‘Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana’, aimed at providing structured and accessible legal aid to serving and retired defence personnel and their families.
- The scheme was announced at the North Zone Regional Conference in Srinagar, under the theme “Reaffirming the Constitutional Vision of Justice for Defence Personnel and Tribals.”
Highlights of the Scheme:
- Launched by: Justice Surya Kant (Supreme Court Judge & Executive Chairman, NALSA)
Purpose:
- To ensure timely legal assistance for soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families facing civil, service-related, or personal legal issues.
Legal Aid Through Sainik Boards:
- Legal services will now be available at Zilla, Rajya, and Kendra Sainik Boards.
- These boards will serve as nodal centers for legal guidance.
Defence Families as Paralegal Volunteers:
- Defence family members and ex-servicemen will be trained as paralegal volunteers.
- This ensures a more empathetic and ground-level understanding of legal concerns.
Addressing Day-to-Day Legal Problems:
- Issues such as land disputes, service matters, family disputes, and utility-related issues will be resolved without soldiers having to leave their postings.
Administrative and Legal Network:
- A strong support system will back the scheme to ensure timely and effective redressal.
Significance:
- The scheme reflects NALSA’s 30-year commitment to ensuring access to justice and reaffirms the legal fraternity’s pledge to stand with the armed forces.
- While soldiers defend the borders, their rights and dignity will now be protected by a responsive legal system at home.
