• The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) released draft amendments to the IT Rules, 2021.

• The amendments introduce new obligations for social media platforms to identify and label AI-generated and deepfake content.
• संशोधनों में सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म के लिए एआई-जनरेटेड और डीपफेक कंटेंट की पहचान करने और उन्हें लेबल करने के नए दायित्व पेश किए गए हैं ।
• The draft mandates that all "synthetically generated information" must be prominently labelled or embedded with a unique metadata identifier.
• मसौदा अनिवार्य करता है कि सभी "सिंथेटिक रूप से जनरेटेड जानकारी" को प्रमुखता से लेबल किया जाए या एक अद्वितीय मेटाडेटा पहचानकर्ता के साथ एम्बेड किया जाए ।
• The identifier must be permanent, visible, or audible, covering at least 10% of the visual area or the first 10% of the audio duration.

• This metadata cannot be altered, removed, or suppressed by any technical means.

• Platforms with over five million registered users in India are classified as Significant Social Media Intermediaries (SSMIs).
• भारत में पाँच मिलियन से अधिक पंजीकृत उपयोगकर्ताओं वाले प्लेटफॉर्म को महत्वपूर्ण सोशल मीडिया मध्यस्थ (SSMIs) के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया गया है ।
• SSMIs are directly responsible for implementing labelling mechanisms for AI-generated content.
• SSMIs एआई-जनरेटेड कंटेंट के लिए लेबलिंग तंत्र को लागू करने के लिए सीधे जिम्मेदार हैं ।
• Users will be required to declare if their content uses AI tools during the upload process.
• अपलोड प्रक्रिया के दौरान उपयोगकर्ताओं को यह घोषित करना भी आवश्यक होगा कि क्या उनके कंटेंट में एआई टूल का उपयोग किया गया है ।
• MeitY has invited public feedback on the proposed amendments until 6 November 2025.
