• President Muizzu called the airport more than a transport hub, describing it as a “symbol of economic transformation.” He said the facility would enhance tourism, agriculture, fisheries, and social development in northern atolls, contributing to balanced national growth.

• The airport was built by India’s JMC Projects at a cost of USD 136.6 million, financed through India’s USD 800 million Line of Credit extended by EXIM Bank in 2019. The project aligns with India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “MAHASAGAR” visions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and maritime connectivity.
