Why in News?
- More than 13,000 tribal women and girl students performed the largest Dhimsa dance at Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, Bhogapuram (Visakhapatnam). The performance was recognised by Guinness World Records.
About Dhimsa Dance
- The Dhimsa dance started as a folk dance of the hill tribes in the Araku Valley in North Andhra.
- The Dhimsa dance is usually performed by a group of 15 to 20 women who wear traditional clothes and ornaments.
- The way the Dhimsa dance is performed is in a circle. The women dance together in time with the rhythm of the music from native instruments.
- The Dhimsa dance is performed with the sound of the Mori, which's a wind instrument, the Thudum, which is a drum and the Dappu, which is a percussion instrument.
- The Dhimsa dance is usually performed during occasions, like weddings and harvest festivals and when the community comes together.
