• Indian Railways has accelerated the rollout of the upgraded Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system, commissioning it across 738 route kilometres on the Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi–Howrah corridors. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament that the system is being deployed rapidly and is already delivering strong safety results.

• Kavach 4.0 is an indigenously developed enhancement of India’s Automatic Train Protection system, designed to prevent collisions and enforce speed limits. Certified to the stringent SIL-4 safety standard, it can automatically apply brakes if a loco pilot fails to respond and ensures safe operations even in low visibility or extreme weather.

• The minister explained that Kavach 4.0 consists of five interconnected subsystems: optical fibre cables laid along tracks, telecom towers enabling uninterrupted radio connectivity, edge data centres located at stations, track-mounted safety units, and onboard devices installed in locomotives.
