• Indian Naval Ship INS Kadmatt, an indigenously built stealth anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvette, has successfully completed a three-day port call at Surabaya, Indonesia.
• The visit highlights growing maritime cooperation and strategic partnership between India and Indonesia in the Indo-Pacific region.
• INS Kadmatt, commissioned in January 2016 under Project 28, is the second of four ASW corvettes constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. It is part of the Eastern Naval Command and has been named after Kadmat Island in Lakshadweep.
• The corvette is specially designed for anti-submarine warfare to safeguard naval convoys and ports from submarine threats.
• It features advanced stealth technology that minimizes underwater noise, reducing the chances of enemy detection.
• Equipped with state-of-the-art radars, underwater sensors, electronic warfare systems, torpedoes, rocket launchers, and anti-aircraft guns, INS Kadmatt can also operate a Sea King anti-submarine helicopter, enhancing its operational range.
• The Surabaya port call further underlines India’s emphasis on strengthening defence diplomacy, enhancing interoperability, and ensuring maritime security in the region.
