● Tangkhul Hui breed native to Ukhrul district, Manipur
● Kombai breed from Tamil Nadu identified as partner breed
● Trained at Assam Rifles Dog Training Centre, Jorhat
● Used as guard and tracker dogs
● Assist in detecting arms, explosives, narcotics
● Current breeds: Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Labrador
● Target: full induction of indigenous breeds by 2027
● Gradual replacement of foreign breeds by 2050
● Assam Rifles established in 1835 as “Cachar Levy”
● Functions under MHA (administrative) and MoD (operational)
