• Second in a series of 16 Shallow Water Crafts, Androth strengthens India’s maritime defence and self-reliance in shipbuilding
• The commissioning of Androth, the Indian Navy’s second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), marks an important milestone in India’s maritime security and indigenous defence production. Scheduled to be inducted at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, on 6 October 2025, this vessel adds significant muscle to India’s Eastern Naval Command.
• Constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), Kolkata, Androth is a testament to India’s growing capabilities in naval construction. With over 80% indigenous components, the vessel stands as a strong symbol of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing. Handed over to the Navy on 13 September 2025, it is the second of sixteen such ships planned to enhance anti-submarine warfare capacity.
• The vessel’s design and capabilities reflect modern naval requirements. Equipped with advanced sensors, weapons, and communication systems, Androth is designed for shallow water operations, employing waterjet propulsion for superior manoeuvrability. Its primary role is anti-submarine warfare, but its versatility extends to maritime surveillance, coastal defence, and Search and Rescue operations.
