Why in News?
At the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) 2026, India won 9 medals (4 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze). Union Minister for Earth Sciences Dr. Jitendra Singh felicitated Team India students at Prithvi Bhawan, New Delhi, and praised them for their achievement.
About IESO 2026
- Venue: Turin, Italy
- Dates: 20–27 August 2026
- Participants: Students from 39 countries
- The competition was held under the aegis of the International Geoscience Organisation.
- Indian students competed in Written and Practical Examinations, International Team Field Investigation (ITFI) and Earth Science Project (ESP) categories.
Indian Students and Their Achievements
- Soumik Mandal of DAV Model School, Durgapur, West Bengal, won 2 Gold and 1 Silver and secured 3rd position globally.
- Aaron Maiti of DAV Model School, IIT-KGP, West Bengal, won 1 Gold and 1 Bronze.
- Riddhi Ranjan of Gyan Asthali International School, Patna, Bihar, won 1 Gold and 1 Silver.
- Md Ehtesham Rizwi of JNV, Bihar, won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
