India won one gold and three bronze medals at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) 2026, held in Romania.
About Event
- Gold Medal: Shrilakshmi Venkatraman
- Bronze Medals: Aarav Anil Rao, Nishanth Shankar Lakshmanan and Advay Misra
- Honourable Mention: Soham Amit Pednekar
- The competition brought together pre-university students from more than 40 countries.
- Unlike traditional Olympiads, the IOL tests logical reasoning, pattern recognition and analytical skills rather than memorised knowledge.
- India has participated in the IOL since 2009 and has now won 37 medals, including 6 gold, 9 silver and 22 bronze.
- Indian participants are selected and trained through the Panini Linguistics Olympiad (PLO), mentored by IIIT Hyderabad.
