  • India will host the 89th General Meeting (GM) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from 15 to 19 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
  • This will be the fourth time India hosts the prestigious IEC GM, following previous editions in 1960, 1997, and 2013.
  • The IEC, established in 1906 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a nonprofit organization that develops and publishes international standards for electrical, electronic, and related technologies.
  • Its mission is to foster global cooperation in electrotechnical standardization through its member countries.
  • IEC standards are created through a consensus-driven process by experts and are widely used to harmonize technical requirements across more than 150 countries.
  • The organization works closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
