- India marked another milestone in global academic excellence by securing the 7th position at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held in Sunshine Coast, Australia.
- Competing against participants from 110 countries, the Indian team achieved its highest-ever cumulative score of 193 out of 252, winning three golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal.

- Gold: Kanav Talwar, Aarav Gupta, Adhitya Mangudy
- Silver: Abel George Mathew, Aadish Jain
- Bronze: Archit Manas
This is only the second time India has bagged three gold medals (the first was in 1998), and the third time India has secured the 7th rank (also in 1998 and 2001). The 2025 performance comes just after India’s best-ever 4th rank in 2024.
About the IMO
- The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the most prestigious pre-university mathematics competition in the world.
- First held in 1959, it features six challenging problems over two days, testing areas like algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.
- Each country selects a six-member team through rigorous national-level exams.
- India has participated since 1989, and the selection & training are conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
