Why in News?
India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) celebrated its 9th Foundation Day on 1 September 2026 and launched new digital platforms to expand access to payments, insurance and investment services.
Key Launches
- DakPay Sound Box: A device for merchants that provides audio confirmation of digital payments, making payment acceptance easier.
- Digital Insurance Technology Platform: Connects customers with Life, Health and General Insurance solutions.
- Digital Mutual Fund Platform: Provides customers with a simple digital platform for mutual fund investments.
Major Milestones
As of 31 March 2026:
- IPPB has 13.25 crore customers, with 77% in rural areas and 49% women customers.
- Customers have deposited ₹29,104 crore with the bank.
- Digital financial transactions reached ₹21.61 lakh crore, including ₹7.41 lakh crore through UPI remittances.
- Around 6.5 crore DBT beneficiaries received benefits worth approximately ₹1.55 lakh crore.
- 29.43 lakh Digital Life Certificates were issued to pensioners.
- 9.47 crore Aadhaar Mobile Updates and 1.35 crore Bal Aadhaar enrolments were recorded.
New Savings Products
IPPB also introduced three products during the previous year:
- SHG Savings Account: Designed for Self-Help Groups and rural micro-entrepreneurs.
- Surakshit Savings Account: Includes ₹25,000 cyber-insurance against phishing, spoofing and SIM-jacking.
- Sampoorna Savings Account: Combines Aarogya wellness benefits with cyber protection and Premium Savings Account benefits.
