India Hosts 89th International Electrotechnical Commission General Meeting
  • India is hosting the 89th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) General Meeting in New Delhi in September 2025.
  • The event has brought together over 2,000 experts from more than 100 countries to deliberate on global electrotechnical standards, covering areas such as electrical, electronic, and related technologies.
  • The opening ceremony at Bharat Mandapam will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi, while Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will unveil the IEC General Meeting Exhibition.
  • The meet is being organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India’s national standards body.
  • This is the fourth time India has hosted the IEC General Meeting, after 1960, 1997, and 2013, reflecting the country’s growing role in shaping international standards and strengthening global cooperation in technology and innovation.
  • The IEC General Meeting serves as a platform for member nations to collaborate on setting uniform standards that ensure safety, interoperability, and innovation in the electrotechnical sector.
