Why in News?
India has gifted five Indian peacocks, including a rare white-feathered male, to the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG). The move brings back the old tradition of keeping peacocks at Ariana Park.

- The five birds include four blue peafowl and one white-feathered male.
- They were handed over by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Arindam Bagchi to UNOG Director-General Tatiana Valovaya.
- This is the second time India has presented peacocks to UNOG.
- In 1981, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had sent a breeding pair from the Delhi Zoo to UNOG.
- The birds will stay in an enclosed habitat for around three months before being allowed to move freely in Ariana Park.
- Ariana Park covers about 46 hectares and has had peacocks for more than a century.
