• India has approved the establishment of Maitri II, a new Antarctic research station, with a ₹2,000 crore budget sanctioned by the Finance Ministry.
• भारत सरकार ने ₹2,000 करोड़ की लागत से नया अंटार्कटिक अनुसंधान केंद्र मैत्री-II स्थापित करने की मंज़ूरी दी है।
• The project will be led by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) and aims to be operational by January 2029.
• यह परियोजना राष्ट्रीय ध्रुवीय एवं महासागर अनुसंधान केंद्र (NCPOR) के नेतृत्व में चलेगी और जनवरी 2029 तक कार्यशील होगी।
• Maitri II will replace the aging Maitri Station (1989) with a modern, eco-friendly base using solar and wind energy.
• मैत्री-II पुराने मैत्री स्टेशन (1989) की जगह एक आधुनिक और पर्यावरण-अनुकूल केंद्र होगा, जो सौर और पवन ऊर्जा से संचालित होगा।
• The station will support research on climate change, glaciology, atmosphere, and polar biodiversity in extreme conditions.
• यह केंद्र जलवायु परिवर्तन, हिमविज्ञान, वायुमंडल और ध्रुवीय जैव विविधता पर शोध को बढ़ावा देगा।
• Once completed, India will have four Antarctic research facilities, strengthening its role in global polar science.
• पूरा होने पर भारत के पास चार अंटार्कटिक अनुसंधान केंद्र होंगे, जिससे वह वैश्विक ध्रुवीय विज्ञान में अपनी भूमिका को और सशक्त करेगा।
