Why in News?
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha that 99.92% of inhabited villages (6,00,868 out of 6,01,328) now have a banking outlet within 5 km, as per Jan Dhan Darshak (JDD) App data.

- Backed by 1.81 lakh+ bank branches, 17.36 lakh Business Correspondents (BCs) and 1.65 lakh IPPB centres (as on 17 July 2026).
- RBI lets banks open branches anywhere without prior approval, provided 25% go to unbanked rural areas.
- Rollout in uncovered areas is monitored by SLBC/UTLBC in consultation with States/UTs and banks.
- 58.77 crore PMJDY accounts exist, with a total balance of ₹3,12,414 crore (as on 17 July 2026).
