Government Launches Angikaar 2025 to Boost PMAY-U 2.0 Implementation
  • The Government of India launched Angikaar 2025 on 4 September 2025 in New Delhi as a focused campaign to accelerate the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).
  • Designed as a last-mile outreach initiative, the campaign aims to increase awareness, streamline application verification, and expedite the completion of pending houses.
  • It will operate across more than 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for a two-month period, bringing the scheme closer to its intended beneficiaries.
  • The background of Angikaar 2025 lies in the government’s commitment to bridge the gap between policy benefits and vulnerable urban populations.
  • The campaign emphasizes ensuring that housing assistance under PMAY-U 2.0 reaches every eligible family. It also highlights the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH), which provides credit support to economically weaker families, and works to integrate the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana with PMAY housing assistance.
  • Running from 4 September to 31 October 2025, Angikaar 2025 will include a series of outreach activities such as door-to-door awareness drives, community mobilisation, loan fairs, cultural events, and information camps.
  • These initiatives are rooted in the idea of Jan Bhagidari, or people’s participation, and are expected to fast-track the completion of remaining sanctioned houses.
  • PMAY-U 2.0 itself was launched in September 2024 with the objective of extending housing benefits to one crore additional families in urban India. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for constructing or purchasing pucca houses.
  • So far, 120 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U, out of which 94.11 lakh have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.
  • A highlight of the campaign will be the celebration of PMAY-U Awas Diwas on 17 September 2025, marking one year of PMAY-U 2.0.
  • The flagship event, PM Awas Mela – Shehri, will be organised at district headquarters and municipal corporations in two phases. The first phase will be held from 17 to 27 September, while the second, more flexible phase will run between 16 and 31 October 2025. These events are intended to showcase scheme benefits, promote community involvement, and reinforce the government’s housing for all mission.
  • Alongside, ULBs will continue local-level activities to maintain the campaign’s momentum and ensure that the housing goals under PMAY-U 2.0 are achieved efficiently.
