Why in News?
The Government informed Parliament that the first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, while the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) is targeted to become operational by 2035.
About
- ISRO has completed major development and testing of the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3), Orbital Module and Crew Escape System for the Gaganyaan mission.
- The first uncrewed mission carrying the Vyommitra humanoid is scheduled for Q4 2026, followed by two more uncrewed missions and India's first crewed space mission by 2027.
- The Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) will consist of five modules, and the government has approved the development and launch of its first module (BAS-01).
- The Union Cabinet approved ₹20,193 crore in September 2024 for eight missions under India's Human Spaceflight Programme.
