Ayurveda Aahara: A New Era for Traditional Nutrition 

  • In a major regulatory advancement, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in coordination with the Ministry of Ayush, has released an official list of Ayurvedic food preparations under the “Ayurveda Aahara” category.
  • This move brings Ayurvedic dietary wisdom into the mainstream food safety ecosystem of India.

What is Ayurveda Aahara?

  • Ayurveda Aahara refers to food products formulated in accordance with the principles of Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of holistic health.

Emphasizes:

  • Balance of doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha)
  • Seasonal and regional compatibility
  • Use of natural ingredients and therapeutic herbs

Regulatory Framework:

  • Governed by the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations, 2022
  • The new list has been issued under:
  • Note (1) of Schedule B
  • Draws from classical Ayurvedic texts listed in Schedule A

The list includes:

  • Standardized recipes
  • Permitted ingredients
  • Recognized preparation methods
