• V.S. Achuthanandan, former Chief Minister of Kerala and veteran communist leader, passed away at the age of 101 on July 21, 2025, at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He served as Chief Minister from 2006 to 2011.
• A key figure in Kerala’s communist movement and a freedom fighter, Achuthanandan remained a dominant presence in state politics for decades. He was admitted to SUT Hospital, Pattom, on June 23 after suffering a heart attack and battling age-related ailments.
• He had largely withdrawn from public life following a minor stroke in 2019, spending his later years under care at his son V. Arun Kumar’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram.
