• The Federation of All India Farmer Associations (FAIFA) has strongly criticised the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO-FCTC) for excluding tobacco farmers and their representatives from the 11th Conference of the Parties (COP11), scheduled in Geneva from November 17 to 22, 2025.
• ऑल इंडिया फार्मर एसोसिएशन्स फेडरेशन (एफएआईएफए) ने विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के फ्रेमवर्क कन्वेंशन ऑन टोबैको कंट्रोल (डब्ल्यूएचओ-एफसीटीसी) की कड़ी आलोचना की है, क्योंकि उसने तंबाकू किसानों और उनके प्रतिनिधियों को 17 से 22 नवंबर 2025 तक जिनेवा में होने वाले 11वें कॉन्फ्रेंस ऑफ द पार्टीज़ (सीओपी11) से बाहर रखा है।
• FAIFA termed the decision “illogical and discriminatory,” stating that rejecting farmers’ participation on the grounds of conflicting interests violated principles of inclusivity and transparency.
• एफएआईएफए ने इस निर्णय को “अतार्किक और भेदभावपूर्ण” बताया, यह कहते हुए कि हितों के टकराव के आधार पर किसानों की भागीदारी अस्वीकार करना समावेशिता और पारदर्शिता के सिद्धांतों का उल्लंघन है।
• FAIFA President P. S. Murali Babu said the exclusion contradicted Articles 17 and 18 of the FCTC, which call for protecting farmers’ livelihoods and promoting sustainable alternatives. He added that denying farmers a voice in policies affecting their future was undemocratic.
• एफएआईएफए अध्यक्ष पी. एस. मुरली बाबू ने कहा कि यह निर्णय एफसीटीसी के अनुच्छेद 17 और 18 के विपरीत है, जो किसानों की आजीविका की रक्षा और सतत विकल्पों को बढ़ावा देने का आह्वान करते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि किसानों को उन नीतियों से बाहर रखना जो उनके भविष्य को प्रभावित करती हैं, अलोकतांत्रिक है।
• India is the world’s second-largest tobacco producer after China and ranks fourth globally in Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco production. It is also the second-largest exporter of unmanufactured tobacco, with exports worth ₹12,006 crore in 2023–24.
• भारत चीन के बाद दुनिया का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा तंबाकू उत्पादक देश है और फ्लू-क्योरड वर्जीनिया (एफसीवी) तंबाकू उत्पादन में वैश्विक स्तर पर चौथे स्थान पर है। यह बिना प्रसंस्कृत तंबाकू का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा निर्यातक भी है, जिसकी 2023–24 में निर्यात मूल्य ₹12,006 करोड़ रहा।
• FAIFA highlighted that over 36 million people in India depend on tobacco cultivation, processing, and trade, emphasising the crop’s socio-economic importance.
• एफएआईएफए ने बताया कि भारत में 3.6 करोड़ से अधिक लोग तंबाकू की खेती, प्रसंस्करण और व्यापार पर निर्भर हैं, जिससे इस फसल का सामाजिक-आर्थिक महत्व स्पष्ट होता है।
• The organisation warned that excluding farmers from global policy forums could alienate millions of rural families and destabilise livelihoods, urging WHO-FCTC to recognise farmers as legitimate stakeholders in tobacco-control policymaking.
• संस्था ने चेतावनी दी कि किसानों को वैश्विक नीति मंचों से बाहर रखना लाखों ग्रामीण परिवारों को अलग-थलग कर सकता है और उनकी आजीविका को अस्थिर कर सकता है। एफएआईएफए ने डब्ल्यूएचओ-एफसीटीसी से आग्रह किया कि वह तंबाकू नियंत्रण नीतिनिर्माण में किसानों को वैध हितधारक के रूप में मान्यता दे।
