Why in News?
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 31 more projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), taking the total number of approved projects to 106.
The approved projects involve a total investment of ₹69,548 crore and are expected to generate 74,628 direct jobs and around 2.5 lakh indirect employment opportunities.

What is ECMS?
The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) is a government initiative aimed at developing a strong domestic ecosystem for manufacturing electronics components.
It focuses on attracting investment in areas such as:
- Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
- Passive components
- Electro-mechanical components
- Sub-assemblies
- Camera modules
- Optical transceivers
- Capital goods used in electronics manufacturing
The broader objective is to move India beyond electronics assembly towards manufacturing critical components and raw materials domestically.
