Two grassroots women environmentalists from Tamil Nadu were honoured with the Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection 2026 for their outstanding contribution to environmental conservation.

- P. Pechiyammal from Ramanathapuram received the award for leading the collection of discarded fishing nets (ghost gear) and plastic waste from the coast.
- Govindhammal from Villupuram was honoured for promoting sustainable agriculture and improving farmers' livelihoods.
