• Dhordo village in Kutch district, Gujarat, has become fully solar-powered, making it the fourth solar village in the state after Modhera, Sukhi, and Masali.
• Globally recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as the ‘Best Tourism Village’, Dhordo’s solar transformation will be dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20 September during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar.
• Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, all 81 households in the village have been equipped with rooftop solar panels, creating a combined capacity of 177 kilowatts.
• This system is expected to generate nearly 2.95 lakh units of electricity annually, helping residents save on bills while earning additional income by selling surplus power to the grid.
• Each household is projected to save about ₹16,064 per year, bringing collective financial benefits of more than ₹13 lakh annually.
• Subsidies and bank loans supported the villagers in adopting solar power, ensuring affordability and long-term sustainability.
