Dhordo in Kutch Becomes Gujarat’s 4th Solar Village
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Gujarat’s 4th solar village at Dhordo, Kutch, on September 20, 2025, during the “Sea to Prosperity” program in Bhavnagar.
  • Dhordo, already recognized globally as the “Best Tourism Village” by the UNWTO, has now achieved the milestone of 100% solarization. With this, Dhordo joins the ranks of Gujarat’s other solar villages — Modhera (Mehsana), Sukhi (Kheda), and Masali (Banaskantha).
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, all residential electricity connections in Dhordo have been fully solarized. The project has installed a total rooftop solar capacity of 177 kW across 81 residential homes, ensuring clean, sustainable, and cost-effective power supply for the villagers.
  • The initiative not only promotes renewable energy adoption but also reduces dependence on conventional electricity, contributing to India’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. For Dhordo, known as the gateway to the Rann of Kutch and a popular tourist destination, the solar village model adds to its identity as an eco-friendly and sustainable hub.
  • The inauguration reflects India’s growing focus on clean energy transition and highlights Gujarat’s leadership in solar power initiatives.
