Important Points
- Located in eastern Rajasthan across Dholpur and Karauli districts.
- Declared in 2023 as Rajasthan’s fifth tiger reserve and India’s 54th tiger reserve.
- Covers approximately 1,111 sq km.
- It shares ecological continuity with Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve to the west.
- Chambal River lies close to the eastern boundary and acts as a natural boundary and water source.
- The terrain includes undulating plateaus, rugged hills, ravines, and dry deciduous forests of Aravalli–Vindhyan region.
- Dominant vegetation: dry deciduous forests with grassy patches, thorny shrubs, and riverine belts.
- Dominant tree species: Dhok (Anogeissus pendula).
- Other flora includes Khair (Acacia catechu), Tendu (Diospyros melanoxylon), Babool (Acacia nilotica).
- Fauna includes tiger, leopard, sloth bear, Indian wolf, striped hyena.
- Herbivores: spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar.
- Small mammals: Indian hare, porcupine, jungle cat.
- More than 250 bird species are documented.
