Why in News?
The Centre has approved ₹3,942 crore for implementing the Amended BharatNet Programme in Chhattisgarh, aimed at strengthening broadband connectivity in rural and underserved areas.
Key Highlights
- 11,682 Gram Panchayats will be covered.
- 8,328 additional villages will receive connectivity on demand.
- 4,048 Phase-I Gram Panchayats will be upgraded from linear to ring topology for better network resilience.
- The programme will also cover 5,964 Phase-II and 1,670 newly created Gram Panchayats.
- It is expected to support 3 lakh+ rural Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections.
- The agreement involves Digital Bharat Nidhi, Chhattisgarh Government, Chhattisgarh State BharatNet Infrastructure Ltd., BSNL and Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society.
