CBDT Raises Threshold for Legacy e-Appeals to ₹25 Lakh
  •  The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) increased the threshold for legacy e-Appeals from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh to reduce backlog.
  • As of April 1, 2025, over 5.39 lakh appeals were pending, involving disputed demand of ₹16.60 lakh crore.
  • The government targets disposal of 2 lakh appeals worth about ₹10 lakh crore. In FY25, disposals rose 155% to a record 1.72 lakh cases.
  • Under the faceless e-Appeal Scheme (2023), JCIT (Appeals) handle smaller cases electronically, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
