BIO-NIVESH Platform Launched to Boost Biotechnology Investment

Why in News?

Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched BIO-NIVESH, a platform designed to connect biotechnology startups with investors and increase private investment in innovations ready for scale-up and commercialisation.

About BIO-NIVESH

  • It aims to bridge the gap between biotechnology research, startups, investors, industry and markets.
  • The platform will help startups access not just funding but also industry partnerships, manufacturing capabilities, market access and global networks.
  • The initiative focuses on technologies that are ready to move from the laboratory to the market.
  • The first edition brought together 20 biotechnology and deep-tech startups and around 50 investors.
  • Future editions are planned in different cities to connect regional biotech ecosystems with investment networks.

Focus on Building Large Biotech Companies

  • Jitendra Singh suggested a “Big Five in Five Years” approach to create a few large biotechnology companies that could act as anchor firms for the wider startup ecosystem.
  • The idea is to focus resources on companies with the potential to scale globally and create opportunities for other startups.
