The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, under the Ministry of Ayush, has launched ‘AyurVarta’, a digital dialogue series to promote authentic knowledge, scientific research and the contemporary relevance of Ayurveda in India and abroad. The initiative has been launched ahead of Ayurveda Day, which will be observed on 23 September.

  • It aims to connect traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific research and contemporary healthcare challenges.
  • The series will also highlight the growing global relevance of Ayurveda.

First Episode

  • The inaugural episode featured Professor (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director, AIIA, and Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean, Ph.D., AIIA.
  • The discussion focused on “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on 23 September?”

Why is Ayurveda Day Celebrated on 23 September?

  • Earlier, Ayurveda Day was observed on Dhanteras (Dhanvantari Jayanti), so its date changed every year.
  • The Government has now designated 23 September as a fixed date for the annual observance.
  • 23 September falls around the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are approximately equal.
  • The date has been associated with the Ayurvedic idea of balance, harmony and equilibrium, which are central to health and well-being in Ayurveda.
