  • The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education has selected 16 outstanding teachers from Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics for the prestigious National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2024.
  • The awards aim to honor educators who have made exceptional contributions in improving the quality of education and enriching students’ learning experiences.

About National Awards to Teachers (NAT)

  • Instituted in 1958, the award recognizes remarkable teachers and headmasters for their dedication to enhancing school education in India.
  • The awards are conferred annually on 5th September (Teacher’s Day) by the President or Vice President of India.
  • The program is executed under the supervision of the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Categories:

  • Teachers and Heads of Schools in State/UT-run schools, local body schools, aided schools, and private schools recognized by State/UT Boards.
  • Central Government Schools: Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Sainik Schools, AEES Schools, and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS).
  • Service Requirement: Minimum 10 years of service as a regular teacher or head of school.

Exclusions:

  • Retired teachers (except those serving at least 4 months in the award year).
  • Educational administrators, inspectors, training institute staff.
  • Contractual teachers and Shiksha Mitras.
  • Teachers involved in private tuition.
