Why in News?
A three-day National Conclave on ‘Tribal Languages and Museums’ commenced in Mysuru, Karnataka on 24 th August 2026. The conclave is organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, Karnataka ST Welfare Department and Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute (KSTRI).
Key Highlights
- The conclave emphasizes the need for preservation, documentation and research of tribal languages and cultural heritage.
- Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey stressed on the importance of tribal languages in preservation of the country's cultural heritage.
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is considering setting up a Tribal Museum in Mysuru on a permanent basis.
- CIIL Director Prof. Basavaraja Kodagunti says that through studying Tribal Languages, one can have an insight into history, tradition and culture of various communities.
- The conclave lays emphasis on documenting tribal knowledge, tradition, art, tribal knowledge related to environment and history.
- The conclave will conclude on 26 th August, 2026.
