Why in News?
India and Singapore signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and one Letter of Intent (LoI) during the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable held in Singapore on 20 August 2026.
Key Highlights
- The agreements focused on maritime heritage, food safety, and telecommunications and broadcasting regulations.
- The roundtable reviewed cooperation across six pillars: Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Healthcare & Medicine, Skills Development, and Sustainability.
- Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the future-oriented India-Singapore economic partnership.
India-Singapore Economic Relations
- Singapore is India’s largest trading partner in ASEAN.
- Bilateral trade increased from US $6.7 billion in FY 2004-05 to US$36.1 billion in FY 2025-26
- Singapore was the largest source of FDI into India in FY 2025-26, with inflows of US$19.8 billion.
- Cumulative FDI inflows from Singapore stood at US$194.68 billion during April 2000–March 2026.
- Around 9,000 Indian companies are registered in Singapore.
Significance
The new agreements are expected to deepen cooperation in heritage conservation, food safety, digital connectivity and regulatory coordination, further strengthening India’s strategic and economic partnership with Singapore.
