Why In News?
India has sent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to Nepal after a flash flood triggered by glacial outburst and rockslide near the Nepal-Tibet border. The humanitarian assistance includes medical supplies and other disaster relief items to help with rescue and relief operations.
Key Highlights
- India has sent 10 tonnes of HADR consignment of essential medicines to Nepal. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that they stand by Nepal and its people at this time of great need.
- The Indian government’s aid has reached Kathmandu, while the organization has mobilized further relief material to help Nepal with the rescue and relief operations.
- The flash floods affected areas along the Bhote Koshi River, particularly Rasuwa and Dhading districts near the Tibet border. The floods damaged bridges, villages and hydropower projects and disrupted connectivity in several areas.

India’s immediate response to the situation in Nepal demonstrates its role as a first responder to regional disasters. It shows India’s position as a reliable foreign policy player in the region, being Nepal’s largest trading partner while demonstrating India’s geostrategic interest in the area.
