Why in News?
India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune.

- The MoU was signed by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazilian Communications Minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho.
- The agreement will promote cooperation in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
- Both countries will work together on universal connectivity and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
- The MoU also covers capacity building and exchange of best practices in the digital and telecom sectors.
- The partnership aims to support a secure, inclusive and accessible digital ecosystem.
- Discussions at the BRICS ICT Track also covered cybersecurity, trustworthy ICTs, child online protection and data privacy.
- The meeting also discussed sustainable digital infrastructure, affordable connectivity and the use of satellite and non-terrestrial communication systems.
BRICS ICT Track
The BRICS ICT Track provides a platform for cooperation among BRICS countries on digital and telecommunications issues. The BRICS Communications Ministers’ Meeting focuses on areas such as digital connectivity, cybersecurity, emerging technologies and resilient ICT infrastructure.
