About e-Shram Portal

  • The e-Shram Portal was launched on 26 August 2021 to create the country's first Aadhaar-authenticated National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW). It provides registered workers with a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN).
  • The portal covers a wide range of workers, including agricultural labourers, construction workers, domestic workers, migrant workers, street vendors, self-employed workers and gig and platform workers.
  • Its main objective is to improve access to social security schemes, facilitate portability of benefits for migrant workers and provide the government with reliable data for welfare planning and policy-making.
